KHAIRPUR - A poverty-stricken elderly couple attempted suicide by jumping into a canal in Khaipur district of Sindh on Saturday.
The tragic incident took place in Luqman area of Khairpur, the hometown of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah. Hussain Bux, 70, and his 60-year-old wife left their house saying that they were going to get medicine.
As they had no money to purchase medicines, they decided to commit suicide. Some shepherds, who were luckily there, managed to save the husband, but his wife died. The elderly couple had been suffering from protracted illness.
Separately in Mirwah, a man committed suicide as his in-laws refused to send wife with him. Reportedly, Akhtar Hussain Shaikh visited his inlaws to woo back his wife but to no avail. The deceased’s parents alleged that his inlaws killed him. The Tharimirwah Police handed over the body to his relatives after legal formalities and launched an investigation.
