PESHAWAR " At least six persons including a woman were injured, when a bomb planted in the upper portion of Imambargah went off in Hussenia street, Takia Sangian area of Hashtnagri Peshawarr in the wee hours of Monday. Police sources and eyewitnesses said that the bomb was placed inside the bathroom of the house of Muttawali (Administrator) Kamal Shah Kazmi. The blast was so powerful that it completely damaged the drawing room of Muttawali and smashed windowpanes of the nearby buildings. The electricity was also disconnected in the area when the transmission line was damaged due to the powerful blast. Soon after the blast the rescuers rushed towards the blast site and started rescue activities on self-help basis. The injured persons were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital for medical treatment who were identified as Noroz Khan, Ilahi Bukhsh, Syed Kamal Shah and his wife, while the names of two other persons could not be ascertained. The Doctors on duty stated the condition of one of the injured persons to be critical, who was shifted to ICU ward of LRH. Later on police and officials of the secret agencies rushed to the blast site and examined the damage caused by the bomb blast. They also collected evidences and remnants of the bomb. An official of the bomb disposal squad said to The Nation that the bomb was locally made weighing about two kg. CCP Peshawar Dr Suleman, SSP Operation Kashif Alam, and SP City Chudhri Asharaf also reached the blast site and examined the situation. Talking to The Nation SP City Chudhri Ashraf said that it was likely that someone who came to the administrator had planted the bomb inside the bathroom. The security in Peshawar was put on high alert and heavy contingents of Police and Rangers were deployed in the city. Police had put blockades on all the internal and external routes leading to Peshawar. They were continuously searching the suspected vehicles entering into the city. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Amir Hiader Khan Hoti and Governor NWFP Owais Ahmad Ghani strongly condemned the blast inside Imambargah and declared it an attempt of sectarian violence. They also issued directives to the police high-ups to probe the incident. It is wroth mentioning that Monday's blast was the second of its kind in which Shiite clerics were targeted as a couple of days back a bomb planted by unknown miscreants went off in a funeral prayer of Shiite cleric killing many persons. The increasing attacks might be an attempt of the anti-state elements to mount sectarian clashes in the region. APP adds: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has strongly condemned the bomb blast at an Imambargah in Peshawar. He said that these barbaric acts were carried by those elements that want to destroy peace of the country. He prayed for early recovery of the injured and directed the health officials to provide them best medical care.
