LAHORE - The Karakoram Express yesterday resumed its operation between Lahore and Karachi after addition of new facilities in it for the passengers. The management however made slight increase in train’s fare.
Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq inaugurated new train at Lahore Railways Station along with Chairman of Senate Standing Committee Fateh Muhammad Hassani, Senator Taj Haider, Senator Hafiz Hamduallah and Senator Sardar Azam Khan.
The minister also announced to up-grade Karachi Express and Business Express within the fiscal year period. Senators appreciated the performance of the Railways under Khawaja Saad Rafique’s ministry.
Karakoram Express has the capacity for 1100 passengers after the up gradation. The fare of AC Business class has been increased by 80 rupees, making it 4490 rupees. Fare of Economy class has been increased by 70 rupees which makes it 1590 rupees. Internet and facilities and public address system have been provided in the train which will operate between the two provincial capitals via Faisalabad. It will leave from Lahore and Karachi Cantt Stations at 4pm and arrive at same destinations at 9.50am and 10.10am respectively by covering the distance in 18 hours approximately. Private cabins have also been introduced for families in the train. It will also offer catering and bedding on payment.
