New York- Chairman Open Society Foundations George Soros called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in New York.
Both the leaders discussed matters related to democracy, rule of law and human rights in Pakistan. George Soros told the Prime Minister that his organization is actively involved in projects to promote democracy and human rights in Pakistan. He said Pakistan is being considered an important country in the comity of nations after smooth and peaceful transition of power from one to another civilian government after 2013 elections. Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Pakistan's Ambassador in the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani also attended the meeting. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is in New York to attend 69th annual session of UN General Assembly. He will address the annual session on Friday. During his stay in New York, the Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts of Japan and Bangladesh, US Vice President Joe Biden, and President of Rwanda. Nawaz Sharif will also attend the UN Peacekeeping Summit.
