Police claimed to have thwarted an attempt to smuggle arms and drugs here in the city on Wednesday. On a tip-off that two vehicles carrying arms and hashish were about to enter in the city, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) set up a check point at Gaddap Townon on Super Highway and started checking. Police signaled a white-color car to stop, but people aboard the vehicle opened fire, killing one police helper, Sabir and injuring a constable. The police also opened a retaliatory fire, killing a woman smuggler, identified as Nazia and arresting her male accomplice, Akhtar. However, their other collaborators managed to escape from the scene. Police recovered six Kalashnikovs, eight pistols and 80 kilograms of hashish from the car. Police registered case and started investigation.
