LAHORE - Mrs Ami Qin of Margalla Green Islamabad claimed the title in the 1st Pakistan Day Ladies Golf Tournament that was held from Marc 23-24 at the Signature Rumanza Golf Course at DHA Multan.

Ami Qin, with an aggregate score of 162 won, the first gross in Cat A. Arooba Ali secured second gross and Shehnaz Moeen earned third. In net section, Zebun Nisa of Royal Palm won first net, while Uzma Khursheed was second and Dr Shaheen third. In Cat B, Fozia Shahid won first gross while Areeba Rizwan was second and Tasleem Hussain third. In net section, Munazza Shaheen got first prize while Noor-us-Saba was second and Humaira Zeeshan third. Munazza Shaheen won both the prizes for the longest drive and nearest to the pin.

Rumanza golf course has the unique distinction of having been designed by Sir Nick Faldo, a golf icon. The event itself was conducted in a highly professional manner by Tournament Committee, headed by its Director, Mrs Noor-us-Saba of Wah Golf Club and was ably assisted by Mrs Maimoona Azam and Mrs Munazza Shaheen. President of Rumanza Golf Club and Administrator of DHA Multan Brig Shoeb Kiani graced the prize distribution ceremony as chief guest and gave away prizes to the prominent ones.

In his speech, Brig Shoeb Kiani stated: “This professionally-organized tournament was conducted in an electric environment and everybody gave their best to win. With this spirit of golf, we would like to conduct another Grand Tournament in November, exclusively for ladies. This will be fully facilitated by DHA Multan.”

It merits mentioning that Dr Asma Afzal Shami, who was the moving spirit behind this event, also took this opportunity to reach out to the local sportswomen of Multan and introduce them to golf. She invited them to attend the prize distribution ceremony and also take part in a special putting competition. Her efforts seem to have borne fruit as 13 of them expressed a desire to consider taking up golf as a sport in the near future. By way of encouraging them, the Secretary of the old Multan Golf Course offered them ‘gratis playing rights,’ on that Golf Course.

Dr Shami said this event couldn’t take place without very generous financial sponsorship provided by Mr Asad Khan, the Owner and CEO of Rainbow Ink, the first digital ink manufacturer in Pakistan. “I speak for all the lady golfers who have participated in this tournament, when I say that the last two days have seen us captivated in a dream like trance. The majesty of Rumanza has left us truly spellbound. We can’t thank DHA Multan enough for creating such a golfing facility in Pakistan.

“Equally matchless has been the boundless hospitality that they have accorded to us. And now, to top it all, Brig Shoeb’s unprecedented offer of hosting a grand, exclusive, Ladies Golf Tournament in November! What more can we ask.”
