LAHORE  -  Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Tuesday formally launched the 1,000 Free Tractors Scheme under the CM Punjab Wheat Initiative Program, aimed at supporting wheat farmers across the province.

In a digital balloting ceremony, the Chief Minister pressed the button to select the lucky winners of the Wheat Cultivation Prize Scheme, marking a significant step towards agricultural uplift. The first tractor under the initiative was awarded to Kausar Parveen, a female farmer from Bahawalnagar, symbolizing the government’s commitment to empowering women in agriculture.

Maryam Nawaz personally congratulated several successful farmers. She spoke with Muhammad Iqbal from Jhang, who expressed his gratitude for the initiative. Similarly, she informed Salman Ahmed from Mandi Bahauddin about his selection, assuring him that the Punjab government is committed to supporting farmers through schemes like Green Tractor, Kisan Card, and Super Seeder.

The Punjab government is dedicated to the well-being of farmers. By the grace of Allah Almighty, we anticipate a bumper wheat harvest, ensuring prosperity for our hard working farmers, she stated.

According to a briefing given to the CM, 57,733 farmers with over 12.5 acres of land applied for the Free Tractor Scheme. Following a rigorous scrutiny and verification process, 21,496 farmers were deemed eligible for the digital balloting.

Under the program, 1,000 farmers will receive 55-horsepower tractors free of cost. All tractors will be delivered within three months. Wheat has been cultivated on 560,000 acres across Punjab this season.

The CM Punjab Wheat Initiative Program is expected to enhance mechanized farming, boost productivity, and ease financial burdens on small and mid-sized farmers. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize Punjab’s agricultural sector and ensure food security in the province.
