LHC overrules own objection

LAHORE Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry on Wednesday overruled the objection earlier affixed by the office to a petition which has challenged government policy to blackout Leader of the Opposition in TV coverage of the Assembly session. After removing the objection, the CJ fixed hearing of the petition filed by one Waqar Ahmed Chaudhry, before the Bench other than himself. Earlier, the LHC office had objected to the petition that matter merit to be filed before the Islamabad High Court with regard to the territorial jurisdiction of the National Assembly. However, the petitioner opposed the objection said that the mater was such it could be filed before the Lahore High Court at the Principal Seat. The chief justice agreed with the petitioner, who is specifically aggrieved of the non-coverage of Ch Nisar Ali Khans speech in the NA, saying PTV and ministry of information violated the constitution.
