Three docs terminated over negligence

MULTAN – The Punjab Health Department has terminated the services of two doctors and postgraduate training of another after finding them guilty of committing negligence in treatment of a patient who has been in coma for the last three years. Health sources disclosed that the services of surgeon Farrukh Aftab and anesthetist Jawad Alvi have been terminated while the specialisation training of Dr Khadim Hussain is terminated.
The patient namely Muhammad Asif went into coma when anesthetist administered him anesthesia overdose during his appendicitis operation in Nishtar Hospital three years back. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had taken a notice of the case on publication of a story in TheNation and formed a three-member committee that found doctors guilty of negligence.
Similarly, another inquiry committee led by the then Commissioner Bahawalpur also declared doctors responsible for this incident while Supreme Court of Pakistan directed Secretary Health to take action against doctors on a suo moto  notice.
Man dies in mishap: A truck driver was killed in a road mishap here the other night.  Zulfiqar Ali was on his way to Kamalia. When he reached near Kamalia Sugar Mills Chowk, a speeding truck hit his truck in the rear. As a result Zulfiqar died on the spot. He was the cousin of senior journalist Mian Abdul Jabbar Tahir who told the media that after the accident Rajana Police ASI Zafar Iqbal allegedly forced the relatives of deceased to sign a paper that they had pardoned the rash driver. The Rajana Police have registered a case against the driver.
