Motorola named sustainability leader

LAHORE  - The 2008-2009 Dow Jones Sustainability World and North American Indexes (DJSI) have ranked Motorola (NYSE: MOT) as a leader for its environmental, social and economic performance, the company announced Thursday. Motorola received the highest score among communication technology companies in several categories, including codes of conduct and compliance, privacy protection, labour practices, talent attraction and retention, corporate citizenship and philanthropy, and supplier standards. "Motorola is proud of the progress we are making every day in sustainable practices that have helped earn Motorola recognition by Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes for the fifth year in a row," said Karen Tandy, senior vice president, public affairs and communications, Motorola. Launched in 1999, the DJSI are among the first global indexes tracking the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. As a member of DJSI World, Motorola is among the top 10 percent of the largest 2,500 companies in the Dow Jones World Index. The annual review of the DJSI is based on a thorough analysis of corporate environmental, social and economic performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards, and labour practices. It accounts for general as well as industry-specific sustainability criteria for 57 industries defined according to the Industry Classification Benchmark.
