ISLAMABAD - Access to information is the basic right of every citizen. Legislation on two major issues including right to information and education was made in 18th amendment through article 19(A) and 25(A) of the Constitution.
ANP Senator Haji Muhammad Adeel said this while addressing a seminar organised by Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) here at local hotel on Tuesday. Title of the seminar was “Right to Information: Constitutional right or a Pipe Dream?”
ANP Senator Adeel and PML-N MNA Raja Muhammad Asad were the chief guests on the occasion. Furthermore people from bureaucracy, civil society, Media and from academia were also present.
Talking about his recent visit to India, Adeel said that province of Bihar in India is a role model for our society because in past there was almost 75 per cent corruption but with the passage of time and accountability of the civil servants, Bihar became more peaceful society of India.
Furthermore he said that he was impressed by the performance of provincial government of Bihar and they had invited the chief minister of Bihar to visit Pakistan in November this year.
He said that judiciary and military must also give access to information that is relevant to public other than security matters. It’s the biggest victory of ANP that it had made legislation on right on information and education, he added. He also said that violence that took place on Friday over blasphemy matter was very shameful as it was against the teachings of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
MNA Raja Asad also emphasised that every institution of the society must give information as it is related to right to information.
He further added that laws are good but the real responsibilities are laid on the shoulders of the practioners of the law and he urged that and politicians and media must play there role for the betterment of the society.
