KARACHI – Seven bandits robbed Rs0.8 million from a private bank in Al-Hilal Society here on Tuesday.Police officials said that the private bank’s branch where the incident occurred was situated at Al-Hilal Cooperative Housing Society within the jurisdiction of New Town police station. They said that at least seven armed men entered the bank at around 12:20pm and held the staff members and customers hostage at gunpoint and warned them of dire consequences if anyone tried to offer resistance. Police officials said that the robbers took at least 10 minutes to complete their swift operation. According to SHO Inam Junejo, the robbers reached the bank on a Mehran car and the motorcycles, adding that while entering into the bank, they first snatched the weapons and metal detector from the three security guards and later they held the staff members and customers hostage at gunpoint. The robbers also snatched cell phones and other valuables from about half dozen customers. They later moved towards to cash counter and managed to escape with the booty worth Rs 0.8 million. Police officials said that they had obtained the CCTV cameras footage installed at the bank as the culprits did not take them away while fleeing. Police, however, have detained the security guards to get any possible lead to probe the case as police suspected their involvement in the bank robbery. Police have also initiated investigation with the help of the CCTV footage and witness accounts.
