KARACHI - Progress in education and research is inevitable to put the country on the way of advancement. National capacity in nanoscience and nanotechnology is strategically important, Nanomachines can identify cancerous cells and kill them one after the other with amazing accuracy. The idea of setting up of the Latif Ebrahim Jamal (LEJ) Research Institute of Nanotechnology in the University campus at a cost of Rs50 million is really an excellent job.International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), Karachi University (KU) is doing well in term of promoting science culture in the country. These views were expressed by Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser, Former Chairman Higher Education Commission Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, Director ICCBS Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary and Chairman Husein Ebrahim Jamal Foundation Mr. Aziz Latif Jamal, while speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony, held at Prof. Salimuzzaman Siddiqui Auditorium (ICCBS), Karachi University here on Tuesday. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad was invited to lay the foundation stone, but he could not attend the ceremony due to his busy schedule, while the KU Vice Chancellor read out his message on the occasion.  About 600 delegates from 40 countries, attending 4-day 13th International Symposium on Natural Product Chemistry, were also present on the occasion. The KU Vice Chancellor said that without achieving remarkable progress in the education and research sectors the country could not attain the progress. He thanked Aziz Latif Jamal for his continued financial support to the higher learning institutions of the university. Prof Dr Attaur Rehman said that the knowledge is the only solution to all problems of the country, as knowledge is considered a key driver to get socio-economic progress in the world. ICCBS Director Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary said ICCBS has become the largest and finest institutions in this region, while after setting up of this Research Institute of Nanotechnology the reputation of the University will be more enhanced.Aziz Latif Jamal said that the foundation stone laying ceremony of Research Institute of Nanotechnology is another gift of the Hussain Ebrahim Jamal Foundation to the nation. “I am pleased to report here that the Husein Ebrahim Jamal Foundation will not only gift a world class purpose build modern building for the new centre, but also provide essential furniture and in house electrical generating system as well. Nanoscience are slowly changing the way we use to see the matter,” he said.
