Also, 17 more officials of Prisons Department were posted in Adiala Jail on orders of IG Prisons Punjab.

The move was made by DIG Prisons Rawalpindi Region after a number of prisoners had lodged a series of complaints against the jail administration with Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minullah during his visit to jail on Saturday last.

The 10 head warders, who have been transferred to other districts, included Ghulam Abbas, Nasir Mehmood, Munir Ahmed, Muhammad Hayyat, Munir Ahmed, Ghulam Mustafa, Faisal Ilyas, Muhammad Hasnat and Muhammad Arshad. In a surprising move, office of Inspector General of Prisons, Punjab has withdrawn the transfer order of Deputy Superintendent Executive Malik Akram. A notification has also been issued in this regard by the AIG Security and Discipline on behalf of IG Prisons Punjab, sources said.

It may be noted that a female citizen namely Imtiaz Bibi filed a petition with IHC stating jail staff placed her son Shahab Hussain under severe torture and broke his finger. She also accused the jail deputy superintendent of detaining her son in a torture cell. On this, IHC CJ Justice Athar Minullah paid a visit to Adiala Jail and listened to the complaints of prisoners. Following the complaints of prisoner, the IHC CJ expressed his deep concerns. The IG and DIG initiated action against the DS, head warders and warders of jail by suspending and transferring them.
