Two cops arrested for attempted rape on girl

IGP Punjab takes notice of incident, seeks report from CCPO

LAHORE    -   Two policemen were arrested for alleg­edly attempting to rape a girl here on Sunday. According to victim girl Nazia Manzoor, two police constables namely Irfan and Amir tried to molest her while she was on her way to home after per­forming her duty. A case has been regis­tered against the two cops at the Defence police station. As per First Information Report (FIR), the victim used to work in Al-Fatah Store in Defence area of Lahore. On Sunday, she was going home along with her co-worker namely Asif from after work when they were stopped by the police constables on Service Road near Phase-8. One of the constables tried to sexually assault the girl after forcibly taking her to an unknown place. The girl tried to resist but the constables contin­ued to subject her to violence for putting up resistance. Moreover, the other con­stable Amir also took out 3,000 rupees from the pocket of her fellow worker Asif. However, both the policemen have been arrested under serious provisions including robbery and sexual assault.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Faisal Shahkar has taken notice of harassment and alleged abuse of a girl by two personnel of Lahore po­lice and sought a report from Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore. 

Lahore Police had registered a case of the incident and arrested the two of­ficials. Ordering a departmental inquiry and legal action against the two officials, he said that strict departmental and legal action should be taken against the two officials in the light of an inquiry. “Such incidents are intolerable and there is no place for such black sheep in the police force.” Shahkar ordered all the field offi­cers RPOs, CPOs and DPOs including La­hore police chief to re-examine the staff posted in police stations, saying the staff with bad reputation should be immedi­ately removed from police stations and field duty. He directed the Lahore police to improve its performance once again, saying the officers of the police should go out in the field and monitor the per­formance of the force. He said that those who harass citizens do not deserve any pardon and any person involved in such incidents would not be allowed to re­main a part of the force.

TWO BROTHERS DIE IN ACCIDENT

A bus on Sunday crushed two motor­cyclists to death near Lorry Adda here on Sunday. According to rescue officials, the victims were identified as Usman and Za­man, residents of Data Nagar. Reportedly, the victims were brothers. The bodies were shifted to a mortuary.

16 DEAD, 901 INJURED IN ROAD AC­CIDENTS ACROSS PUNJAB

The Punjab Emergency Service, Res­cue 1122 responded to 912 road traffic crashes (RTCs) in Punjab during the last 24 hours and saved hundreds of lives by providing them first-aid on the spot and timely shifting them to hospitals. 

At least 16 people died whereas 901 sustained injures. Out of this, 511 seri­ously injured people were shifted to dif­ferent hospitals. Whereas, 390 minor injured victims were treated at the inci­dent site by rescue medical teams, said a spokesperson of Rescue 1122 on Sunday.

The majority of accidents involved motorbikes, therefore effective enforce­ment of traffic laws and lane discipline were essential to reduce the increasing number of RTCs, he added. The analy­sis showed that 460 drivers, 27 under­age drivers, 86 pedestrians, and 371 passengers were among the victims of these accidents. The statistics showed that 225 accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 230 people plac­ing the provincial capital at top of the list followed by 65 in Multan with 73 victims and at third Faisalabad with 64 RTCs and 53 victims.
