PM meets partymen today to mull future course

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has summoned a meeting of the senior party leaders today (Thursday) to discuss the overall political situation in the country and the future course of action of his party in the face of election tribunal’s decisions declaring elections in NA-154 void.
Sources in the ruling PML-N informed that previously the party had decided to challenge the decision of election tribunal de-seating PML-N Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq by announcing re-elections in NA-122 in apex court despite strong voices in the party in favour of going to elections instead.
Sources in the party further informed that a sizeable group within the party was in support of contesting by-polls to settle the political score with PTI instead of taking the legal course, but there are also some heavyweights within the party to first exhaust all legal remedies before going to polls.
The decision against the party MNA from NA-154, though was made on the fake degree issue, but even then there was strong voice within the party to contest by-polls instead of taking the legal course. They were of the view that going to polls was the only way to neutralise the PTI’s propaganda against the government.
Sources in the party further said that prime minister would be taking the input from his close aides before deciding on whether to go for polls or to continue treading on the legal course as in case of Railways Minister Kh Saad Rafique and later Speaker National Assembly also decided to approach apex court against the Election Tribunal’s decision as per party decision.
Sources in the party added that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar would also be briefing the prime minister about the successful negotiation with MQM delegation and would take his approval on the Grievance Redressal Committee agreed upon in the negotiations between the two sides.
