Issues in media

The present government seems to be keeping a full regiment of party office-holders lodged in high-class hotels, directly or indirectly at public expense. Their job is to regularly attend various television shows and other public forums and try their best to hoodwink the people through fabricated figures or bamboozle them with misleading claims. One such party official in a recent appearance on a channel openly admitted that he was residing permanently at a five-star hotel paying a rent of Rs. 12000 per day. Then there are the labour union men that are being pampered by the PPP government to create a vote bank among labour or serve partys other purposes. There is, thus, nothing left to stop them from working against public interest. For example, the WAPDA staff at Fareed Colony and other localities of Muzaffargarh city seem to be supplementing the 'save electricity drive of the government by daily disrupting power supply, which they later claim as having been caused by line-faults. Practically, the loadshedding hours of our city have been doubled through this ruse. They laugh when complaints are made on telephone for restoration of electricity supply. The government is only admitting to half the shutdowns that are actually being done just to save face in public. -NAEEM KHALID, Muzaf-fargarh, June 10.
