OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - The Government College University Economics Department on Sunday held a special condolence meeting to remember distinguished educationist and economist Prof Abdul Samad Khalid, the former chairperson of GCU Economics Department, who passed away in the United States two weeks ago. In their condolences messages, GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ikram-ul-Haq (SI) and Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Prof Dr Khalid Pervaiz paid glowing tributes to the late Prof Abdul Samad Khalid on account of his indispensable services for promotion education in the country. They said Prof AS Khalid was the longest serving Chairman of the Department of Economics. He remained in academics from 1952 till his retirement in 1988 from Government College. GCU Economics Department Chairman Dr Asif Saeed also lauded the services rendered by Prof AS Khalid for academic growth and development of the Department. He said that the department of economics would remember him as a man of principles and kind hearted teacher because of his dedication towards his profession. He also read the message of the former Vice Chancellor, GC University Professor Dr Khalid Aftab who has appreciated the role of Professor AS Khalid for promoting quality education in the department. Professor Hamid Yamin Dar, a close associate of Professor AS Khalid, said that humbleness and humility shown by Prof AS Khalid during his service in the field of education holds him in high esteem amongst his fellow colleagues and students. Prof Tariq Sultan also appreciated the commitment, dedication and devotion of Prof AS Khalid in the teaching profession. He said that he always took care of his students in parental spirit and was regarded as a highly respectable teacher by the students.
