ISLAMABAD - The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau has initiated the process of complaint verification against Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, former PPP minister in Sindh, in the case of bogus appointments of teachers in provincial education department, The Nation learnt on Friday.
Sources in NAB informed this scribe that NAB had received a complaint regarding bogus appointments of 13000 teachers in Sindh education department during last tenure of PPP in the province. Mazhar-ul-Haq was education minister at that time. The complaint also included name of current secretary Sindh Education Ministry. The NAB sources said that the case of bogus appointments had already been established in the inquiry committee constituted by the CM Sindh.
Present education minister of Sindh, Nisar Khuhro, had also claimed that these 13,000 appointments were made illegally against merely 1,425 teaching posts during Haq’a tenure.
The sources said that it was clearly mentioned in the complaint that approximately Rs 6500 million to 13000 million have allegedly been collected in the name of appointments.
On the other side, Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Chairman NAB, on Friday said NAB is committed to eradicate corruption across the country by using all its resources. He said the menace of corruption leads to injustice, lawlessness and creates a sense of insecurity, hopelessness and despondency.
He said this while chairing a meeting at the NAB headquarters here.
He said NAB was established to fight and eradicate corruption in a holistic and integrated manner. NAB is essentially a complaint driven organization. He said NAB’s personnel need to follow a strict Code of Conduct and zero tolerance against corruption is to be visibly exhibited.
The number of complaints received in 2013 was 19900 which are double of the number of 10500 complaints received in 2014 from the previous year.
To speed up disposal of pending enforcement work, it has been decided to fix time limit for each step of enforcement i.e. complaint verification, inquiry & investigation.
The chairman said since its inception, NAB has adopted the enforcement based approach in the fight against corruption. He said NAB has established 4019 Character Building Societies (CBS) in educational institutions across the country to build an effective edifice against corruption.
