ISLAMABAD -Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf-led coalition, which would form government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa, has decided to also get affidavits from all the members KPK Assembly about their nationality soon after they are administered oath of their new assignment on May 29.
Sources in PTI confirmed to The Nation that all the MPs of KPK Assembly would have to submit details about their nationality status soon after their oath and in this connection the other coalition partners - Jamaat-I-Islam and Qoumi Watan Party - have also been taken on board.
The sources said that with the furnishing of these affidavits would help end the ambiguity about some of the MPs holding dual nationality.
Previously the controversy had started when the matter of dual nationality was taken up by the Supreme Court of Pakistan and couple of dozen MPs had to lose their seats on charges of holding dual nationality and even some of the MPs had preferred to keep their dual nationality and vacated their membership of the Parliament.
Although there was explicit mention in the application form for the candidates intending to contest elections on national assembly or provincial assembly seats that dual nationals are not eligible but even then the PTI-led coalition in the KPK has decided to re-verify from the MPAs elect about the status of their nationality.
On the other hand with the inclusion of nine independent candidates in PTI the total strength of the party in KPK Assembly rose to 44 and with the reserved seats for women and minorities they would stand around at 55. With the support of Qoumi Watan Party and Jamaat-I-Islami the coalition would have comfortable strength in the KPK Assembly to move forward with its agenda.
