Ghotki is known to be one of the backward and neglected districts of Sindh. It is the district of high production and most neglection. This underdeveloped region consists of five functional sugar mills and one of the largest gas-producing fields of Pakistan, the Qadirpur gas field. This field, which commenced in 1995, is one of the major reserves of Pakistan. It comprises 57 producing wells.

Despite the fact, the citizens of the region are destitute of gas even though it is being produced at 8 kilometres distance from their homes. Not only that but Ghotki is not provided with the basic facilities of health and education. Hospitals lack proper functioning, and there is no university-level institution except for the branch of Shah Abdul Latif University. This part of the region needs serious concentration. At least the basic facilities are the basic rights of the public.
