Senate body briefed on working, output of NUST 

ISLAMABAD - Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology was briefed on working and performance of National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and other respective details relating budget and facilities being provided to the students hailing from downtrodden areas of the country.

The committee met at Parliament House on Tuesday. Chairman Committee Senator Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen presided over the meeting.

The meeting reviewed working mechanism and performance of National University of Science and Technology. It was also briefed in detail on relevant departments and campuses, details of province-wise permanent contract employees of NUST, availability of vacancies, number of students from underdeveloped areas with annual budget and scholars ships  at NUST.

During the meeting, Chairman Committee and others members expressed their displeasure over the non-participation of the Rector of NUST University in the meeting. The meeting was informed that teaching process at NUST University, Quetta was started in 2019 in a temporary building, while the main campus in Quetta is in the final stages of completion.

The committee recommended that work should be accelerated to run the NUST University Quetta Campus on renewable energy and a comprehensive plan should be prepared and presented before the committee. Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Senator Syed Shibli Faraz said that NUST is a unique university which has been established in an entire sector of Islamabad.

Chairman Committee Senator Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen directed to present the master plan of NUST University Islamabad Campus in the next meeting of the committee.
