IGP for strengthening security for churches

KARACHI : The security arrangements for the churches and the Christian localities be reviewed and strengthened further.This was directed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh, Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari.A police statement here on Wednesday said that he issued the directives to this effect in a meeting with a delegation led by Bishop Sadiq Danial.Additional IG Karachi, Iqbal Mahmood, who was also present at the meeting informed that security is being provided at 428 churches in the metropolis.However, in the wake of the incident in Mardan, more police personnel are being deployed.The IGP said that the government gives special attention to the security to the minorities communities and their places of worship. He directed the police that the security arrangements should be made more effective.Leghari asked the zonal DIGs to nominate senior police officers as the focal persons for the resolution of the problems of the minorities in their respective areas.Meanwhile, Leghari has directed that adequate security arrangements be taken for those involved in relief, rescue and rehabilitation work in the rain-affected areas in the province. The IGP issued directive to this effect to the respective police ranges, says a statement here on Wednesday. He asked the police officials concerned to undertake effective security measures in consultation with the office bearers of the Pakistan Medical Association as well as the government organizations and social and welfare organizations whose volunteers are engaged in relief and rescue works in the rain and flood affected areas. The IGP also called for protection of the vehicles carrying necessary medicines to the affected areas.PAK SWEDISH PRODUCTION UNITS: The Managing Director, Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA), Hafeezullah Abbasi, presided over a meeting of officials of STEVTA in connection with revival of Pak Swedish Woodworking Production, Garments and Printing Graphics Units. He highlighted the importance of production units and said that the Sindh CM has already approved these projects.Masroor Ahmed Shaikh, Ghulam Sarwar Joyo, Nazir Ahmed Channa, Manzoor Vistro, Abdul Sami Bhutto, Abdul Hafeez Abbasi, Ghulam Muhammad, Saeed Ahmed and Javed Ahmed attended the meeting.The managing director stressed that these projects shall be made operative on priority basis within stipulated time frame and as a pilot the furniture of Stevta institutions, printing of stationery and uniforms of drivers/security guards will be made through Pak Swedish Institute. The formal inauguration of the units was decided to be performed in December this year.
