ISLAMABAD - Ministry of Interior has decided to review all mechanisms earlier devised for provision of security to the Chinese nationals, working in Pakistan, in the wake of the suicide attack in Karachi that claimed at least four lives including three Chinese.

Official sources in the interior ministry informed that the ministry will take concrete steps after reviewing the whole security apparatus to ensure foolproof security to Chinese citizens.

The ministry claims that a multi-layer security mechanism was already in place to provide security to CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor) projects and to those Chinese nationals either working in these schemes or staying in the country for employment and business purposes.

Last year, the Ministry of Interior had set up a cell to make security arrangements for foreign nationals, especially for Chinese nationals, living in the country. The step was taken after as many as 13 people, including nine Chinese nationals, were killed when a bus carrying the workers to an under-construction site of Dasu hydropower project fell into a ravine in the Upper Kohistan area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following a bomb explosion.

On the other hand, Interior Minister Rana Sana Ullah Khan on Wednesday left for Karachi on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. After reaching there, he held a one-on-one meeting with Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to discuss the security situation after the terrorism incident at Karachi University.

The minister also visited the Consulate General of China in the metropolitan city to condole over the death of Chinese citizens, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior.

Before this, Rana Sana in a statement said that the culprits and perpetrators of the terrorism attack would be brought to book. He labelled the incidents as an attack on “China Pakistan friendship” and said, “They would deal with it with full force.”

The minister said that he would get the details of the incident after holding meetings with some key officers. “Our great friend China would be kept on board about the investigation of the case,” he said. He said that every aspect of the incident was being examined keenly and the federal government would extend all cooperation to arrest the culprits.
