NA session after Eidul Fitr to take up electoral reforms

ISLAMABAD - Though the incumbent govt has planned to summon the National Assembly session soon after Eidul Fitr, it is unclear whether President Arif Alvi has approved the summary for calling the lower house session house.

The coalition govt wants to dispose of important legislative business related to electoral reforms soon after the vacations of Eidul Fitr. According to rules and procedures, President has to summon the National Assembly session over the advice of the Prime Minister. The President has the power to resend the summary to Prime Minister’s Secretariat for reconsidering the cause of summoning the National Assembly session. Political and constitutional experts viewed that the number-strong government could summon the session by taking the help of requisition.

Will President summon NA session on the advice of PM?

The Speaker of the National Assembly, in case of requisition submitted by the members, could summon the session within 15 days. Commenting on the current political scenario, they said that the coalition government would not face much difficulty to summon the National Assembly session. They said the upcoming session of the National Assembly would also be important as the leader of the opposition would be elected in this session. The opposition parties including PML-Q, GDA, and a group of PTI dissidents would submit separate applications for their nominees for this important slot.
