Modern seeds to be introduced to enhance cotton production

ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Textile Industry Rana Farooq Saeed Khan has said that textiles are a major part of Pakistans exports and the country had a world recognition in the this sector. He was talking to a delegation of farmers who called on him here Thursday. He said that textiles sector is contributing to the livelihoods of more than 10 million farming families and providing 40 per cent of industrial employments. He said that it was a great honour for Pakistan that it was fourth largest cotton producing country. He told the delegation that textiles sector had been affected adversely due to energy crisis, quota systems. He said that the government was taking immediate measures to overcome energy crisis and other factors hit badly national economy. The farmers also apprised the minister about their different problems. Rana Farooq said that new and modern kinds of cottonseeds would be introduced to enhance production as agriculture was top priority of the government.
