Multan-The city presented the view of tsunami-hit island after Saturday’s massive downpour as almost all city roads, streets and low-lying areas came under water after receiving over 60 mm rain. The rain was still underway till filing of this report. The weather forecast by the metrological department warned that the city is likely to receive more rain. Many persons were injured in rain-related incidents as at least four incidents of wall collapse were reported from different areas of city.

The city has so far received over 60 mm rain as a result of which puddles, lakes and ponds of rainwater surfaced in entire city. The Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) completely failed in disposal of rainwater. All low-lying areas came under rainwater, paralysing the life.

On the other hand, over a dozen feeders tripped simultaneously because of torrential rain and power supply to a vast area of Multan got suspended. A spokesman of Multan Electric Power Company said that work was underway to restore feeders.

Meanwhile, the agriculture department has issued another warning to the cotton growers, asking them to ensure disposal of rainwater from the fields. “The excessive water will kill the plants so its immediate removal is imperative,“ the advisory added. It also suggested to the growers to conduct pest scouting as the threat of pest attack on cotton crop intensified manifolds due to current rains.
