SHEIKHUPURA : The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) managed to arrest two officials of the Highway Department three years after they had gone into hiding here on Friday.

Talking to this report, ACE Assistant Director Khalid Mehmood informed that SDO Shahid Javid and Overseer Javed Iqbal of the Highway Department had made payment to a contractor in the name of construction of a road in Kot Abdulmalik locality.

However, the contractor never executed any such project and withdrew Rs five million after approval by both these officials. Following a host of complaints from residents of the area, the Highway Department conducted an inquiry and observed that no such project had been executed in Kot Abdulmalik. The ACE had registered a case against both the officials but they had gone into hiding. Now the ACE has managed to nick them after a long time in the Rs5 million scam, he said, adding that further investigation was underway.
