Six passengers including a woman were killed and 20 others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and oil-tanker here on Saturday.
The horrific accident occurred near Chowk Gopang in Shehr Sultan when a passenger bus coming from Rawalpindi rammed into an oil-tanker on National Highway.
Muzaffargarh DPO Awais Ahmed Malik said that the accident occurred due to reckless driving and driver of the oil-tanker also killed on the spot.
Several passengers were trapped inside the bus that was left mangled after the high-speed crash. Rescue teams immediately arrived at the scene and pulled out the stranded passengers and bodies after hectic struggle. An eyewitness said that he saw several passengers pleading for help.
The DPO said that most of the passengers were trapped between their seats and they were rescued by cutting the bus body with metal cutters. The injured were shifted to THQ Hospital Alipur and DHQ Hospital Muzaffargarh.
The deceased include a couple while some of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
Meanwhile in a press statement, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the loss of precious lives and sympathized with the bereaved families.
