Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) Chairman Mukhtar Ahmed Khan Baloch declared on Monday that the PCGA would support steps taken for the import good quality seed for boosting cotton production in the country.
Talking to a delegation of a multi-national seed company here at his office on Monday, he added that local seed mafia was supplying substandard and less germinated seed to farmers on exorbitant rates and this mafia was fleecing the growers with both hands. He said that farmers faced loss of billions of rupees per season at the hands of seed mafia and adulteration mafia. Chairman of PCGA said that they would not rely only one multi-national company but it would contact the developed countries like Brazil, China, India etc to save the cotton economy. He asked all the multi-national companies to cooperate the Pakistani growers for boosting up the cotton production by transferring modern technology and good quality seed .He was of the view that Multinational Companies should talk to all stakeholders and PCGA can play its role to bring all the stake holder on one platform . He said that transfer of research and technology to Pakistan may bring a revolution in the life of cotton growers. He said that Government was trying to ensure the supply of qualitative seed to farmers since 1993 but influential people and strong seed mafia foiled the Government efforts.
Former Chairmen of PCGA Amanullah Qureshi, Sheikh Muhammad Saeed, Suhail Mehmood Haral, Shehzad Ali Khan, Khawaja Muhammad Azam, Rao Sadaruddin, Khawaja Riaz Hussain Siddiqui, Khawaja Farooq Ahmed, Ch Khalid Bashir, Kashif Rasool Maral, Mian Akhtar Javed and Mudassar Hussain, Muhammad ASif Khalid Secretary General, Syed Tauqueer Shah, Deputy Secretary of PCGA, Aamer Mehmood Mirza, Muhammad Aasim, Muhammad ilyas Nadeem, Maria Aslam and Javed Murtaza were also present on this occasion.
