ISLAMABAD The revised edition of Great Sufi Wisdom - Mian Mohammad Bakhsh by Prof Saeed Ahmad, who is known as Punjabi Sufi translator, has been published. Mian Mohammad Bakhsh (1830-1907) wrote 18 books, all in the Punjabi language except one in Persian. His major work is Saiful Malook. The real name of the book is Safrul Ishq (The Journey of Love) but it is publicly known as Saiful Malook. The most interesting feature of the book by Prof Saeed is that it includes Shahmukhi, Gurmukhi and Roman scripts. He has translated the selected poetry of Punjabi Sufi poets including Baba Farid Shakar Ganj, Shah Hussain, Sultan Bahu, Bulleh Shah, Waris Shah, Mian Mohammad Bakhsh and Khawaja Ghulam Farid. Prof Saeeds views regarding Sufism are Sufis are our social mentors. They teach us the best moral values of the living. They believe in a gentle, humble and nice way with everyone irrespective of his or her gender, caste, creed, religion, sect, nationality, ethnicity or social status. They oppose aggression, cheating and exhibitionism, which is unfortunately at boom in our day-to-day life. It is pertinent to mention here that Prof Saeed Ahmad is teaching Economics at Government College of Commerce, Rawalpindi but his major interest is to promote Punjabi Sufi poetry. Prof Saeed has translated and explained selected works of five Punjabi mystic poets in five separate books. These poets exercise great influence over a large number of people of this region. The message these poets conveyed in their poetry calls for end to hypocrisy in any form. These mystic poets, also called Sufis or saints, advocated that the people should always remember their Creator. True love with God, according to them, is must for salvation in the next world. They advocated simplicity and rejected pomp and show in daily life. They urged people not to damage others in lust for material things, as they have to answer to God for what they do in this world. For example Waris Shah says: Waris Shah, kisey da buraa keetaa, jaa gor andar pachtaasiaa nee. Waris Shah If you hurt anyone in your life, you will repent that action in your grave. Mian Mohammad Bakhsh says: Kujh wasaah naa saah aaey daa, maan kehyaa fer karnaa, jis jussey noon chand chand rakheyn, khaak andar wanj dharnaa. The work of Prof Saeed is widely admired all over the world because of the simplest language of his meaningful translation. His work is also translated in many other world languages including French, Esperanto, Arabic, Russina, Romanian, Polish and German.
