KARACHI - Inauguration of Rs. 150 million KPT Overpass marks the completion of KPT project "Development and Rehabilitation of M A Jinnah Road (From Jinnah Bridge to Keamari Boat Basin. The ceremony was attend by Minister for Ports and shipping Qamaruzzaman Kaira (Chief Guest), Secretary Port and Shipping, Chairman KPT Vice Admiral Ahmed Hayat, Chairmen and officials of all ports from Government, Consulates, Officials of Karachi Port Trust and media. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest and Minister for Ports and Shipping Qamaruzzaman Kaira termed the logistic network plays a pivotal role in our economy. He complimented the efforts of Chairman KPT Vice Admiral Ahmad Hayat for completing it well before time. In his welcome address, the Chaim1an KPT Vice Admiral Ahmad Hayat said that the KPT has given lot of preference to the logistic network which the ports require to handle Transshipment cargo for the landlocked Central Asia States bordering Pakistan. During the occasion, the Minister was briefed about the salient features of the KPT Overpass. He was informed that the Overpass will provide direct linkage to heavy traffic 1ering the port area. Trailers will no more form queues and block traffic movement on M A Jinnah road. Trailers from Timber Pond area will ascend the Overpass and enter the port area. He was also informed that the length of KPT Overpass is 700 meters and its designed life span is 50 years. it comprises of 14 spans of piles, pile caps, transom, girders, diaphragms, deck slabs and footpath, central barriers and claddings. Minister also visited KPT Head Office where he was briefed by Chairmen or Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim Authority, Gwadar Port Authority and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation. The Minister appreciates the efforts being made in the domain of Ports and Shipping and encouraged them to continue on the path of progress. Later, the Ports and Shipping Minister Qamaruzzaman Kaira and Chairman KPT Vice Admiral Ahmad Hayat unveiled the plaque to formally inaugurate the Overpass for traffic which concluded the ceremony.
