FAISALABAD : The Agriculture department Punjab has advised the farmers to cultivate approved varieties of sugarcane to get bumper crop. A spokesman of the department told APP here Sunday that the approved varieties have most resistance against various diseases besides giving high quality yield. The agriculture department has approved 18 sugarcane varieties for cultivation in the province. The varieties include CP-77-400, CP-72-2086, CP-43-33, CPF-237, HSF-240, HSF-242, CPF-243, SPF-213, SPF-234, SPF-245, COJ-84, etc., he added The spokesman told, CP-77-400, CP-72-2086, CP-43-33, CPF-237, HSF-240, HSF-242, CPF-243 are the best varieties for cultivation in Punjab.
The varieties become ready for harvest early and give more yield than the varieties being cultivated in November or October.
He said, the growers should select healthy seed of the sugarcane for cultivation as the high yield mostly depends on the selection of healthy and disease free seed. These varieties can give 1000 to 1500 mounds per acre yield, he added.
