A new Afghan regime

The world was stunned when the Taliban took over Afghanistan within such a short span of time after the US withdrawal. Mike Pence, the former Vice President of the US, strongly criticised the Biden administration for this evacuation. While speaking to the Wall-Street Journal, he declared this act as an embarrassment to foreign policy, and framed it in reference to the Iran hostage crisis. Former US president, Donald Trump, also criticised the hasty decision of an evacuation by the Biden administration and demanded a resignation in return.

Joe Biden has just extended the efforts and executed the already laid-down roadmap of evacuation by the Trump Administration. Biden declared the US withdrawal from Afghanistan as the finest resolve, blaming Afghan forces for the lack of passion to fight despite possessing all resources and training.

Joe Biden called the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan the best decision by the US government, and justified it by blaming the Afghan army, saying that despite all training and resources, the Afghan army does not have the spirit to fight; thus, US troops cannot be left to die in Afghanistan in this scenario. The world is wondering about what motive remains and has been gained after 20 years of warfare, when the US ultimately had to withdraw with such a mortifying retreat? Successors, survivors, and families of deceased US and NATO soldiers have no limit for their agony. An outcry of mourning in India is visible, where the media is projecting it as a horrible nightmare, already sharply criticising the US decision. Moreover, the escape of Ashraf Ghani out of Afghanistan has also drawn much condemnation from various leaders including Abdullah Abdullah.

By defeating two of the world’s superpowers in the last forty years, at this moment of time, the Taliban are on their way to a new chapter in history. It seems evident too that the Taliban won’t be casual or hurried in their decisions; they seem patient in their approach in light of two decades’ worth of lessons and experiences. They have shown flexibility and tolerance by announcing a general amnesty, allowing for uninterrupted public and private sector businesses to continue as per routine; raising no objections to Afghan TV programmes conducted by female anchors; these all are the indications that Taliban are implementing strategies by keeping their past experience of decades in consideration.

Apparently, they are seeking ways to work with new zeal by showing their willingness to revamp political and foreign relations. The most noticeable and important declaration is the assurance that Afghan land won’t be allowed to be a source of threat to any nation; besides contentment, this declaration has turned into hope for the Afghan people, Pakistan and Muslim nations. The purpose behind this hope is a concern about the prosperity and development of the Afghan people in the fields of education, economy, defence and foreign policy through the best possible means.

In spite of it all, the role of Pakistan is instrumental in these circumstances. Likewise previously, Pakistan has always assisted Afghanistan in straightening its ties with China and Russia, in order to maintain the peace and sustainability of the region. Pakistan has always tried for Afghanistan to remain abreast with the entire world. Now it’s over to Afghanistan and the Taliban; they should make good decisions for their nation and people, to get them out of decades’ long trauma, and allow for them to show their skilled potential for a prosperous Afghanistan.
