India spoiling regional peace by supporting terror groups in Afghanistan: Qureshi

Says effective border security in place to cope with any eventuality from Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD   -  Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said India is playing a role as a peace spoiler in Afghanistan and supported various terror groups in Afghanistan against Pakistan, therefore Pakistan needs to be vigilant over the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

“India is bent upon soiling the peace of the region and is engaged in acts to degrade Pakistan in the region, for which it would never succeed,” Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in a statement issued to the media.

He termed his four-nation visit as successful and said there is a convergence of views among the leadership of countries he visited with that of Pakistan on Afghanistan. 

To a question Foreign Minister Qureshi said effective border management measures are in place to cope with any eventuality from Afghanistan.

In the context of Kabul blasts, foreign minister said if the security situation deteriorates in Afghanistan this would affect the entire region therefore peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in the interest of whole region.

Foreign minister said the Taliban leadership is in touch with all stakeholders on the evolving situation in Afghanistan including Pakistan.

He said past mistakes in Afghanistan should not be repeated as Pakistan is still being affected by such mistakes.

“If a positive message emanates from Kabul, it should be encouraged and welcomed,” foreign minister remarked.
