ISLAMABAD -  Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry Tuesday briefed the Special Committee on Kashmir about the latest situation of Kashmir issue and efforts so far taken by Pakistan to raise the issue on national and international forums. He was speaking at the first formal meeting of the Special Committee on Kashmir that was held at the Parliament House with Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the chair.

The foreign secretary also replied to the questions of the members of the committee on the subject.

Chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman thanked members of the committee for electing him unopposed as its chairman last month.

Later, the Secretary Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Division Shahidullah Baig also apprised the committee of details of activities on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day falling on 5th February 2014.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman nominated MNAs Muhammad Ijazul Haq, Chaudhry Iftikhar Nazir and Malik Ibrar Ahmed to present a memorandum to the United Nations Resident Representative in Islamabad on behalf of the chairman and committee.

He further asked that the speakers of the provincial assemblies and chief ministers of the provinces to participate in these activities to show complete solidarity with the people of Kashmir.

The chairman observed that their active participation on this important day will give a message to the world that whole Pakistani nation is on one page and with one voice on Pakistan’s principled stand of right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.

The chairman further nominated MNAs Abdul Waseem, Mujahid Ali and Rana Umar Nazir Khan to join the ceremony of human chain at Kohla Bridge linking Pakistan with Azad Jammu and Kashmir to represent the Special Kashmir Committee and to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Amir Haider Khan, Mujahid Ali, Engineer Dawar Khan Kundi, Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, Azhar Qayyum Nahra, Zahid Hamid, Mian Javed Latif, Chaudhry Iftikhar Nazir, Muhammad Ejazul Haq, Muhammad Arshad Khan Laghari, Ghous Bux Mehr, Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, Abdul Sattar Bachani and Abdul Waseem.

The senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including Riffat Masood, DG South Asia, Ajmal Gondal, Joint Secretary Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Division and focal person Kashmir Solidarity Day, and Nasim Khalid, Director General Kashmir Committee, also attended the meeting.
