LOS ANGELES Jennifer Lopez is set to star in indie drama Lila And Eve.

The American Idol judge and singer will take the lead role in the movie alongside Oscar-nominated actress Viola Davis, reported The Wrap.

The pair will play “grief-stricken mothers” who plot to avenge the deaths of their children who were killed in a drive-by shooting in the drama, which will be directed by Charles Stone III from Pat Gilfillan’s script.

Yolonda Ross will portray a member of a Mothers of Lost Children support group, while Boardwalk Empire actor Shea Whigham has been cast as a police detective who investigate the mother’s crimes.

The independent movie, which will be co-produced by Viola alongside Lifetime Films and A+E Studios, is expected to make its premiere on the festival circuit and in cinemas in late 2014 or early 2015.

Jennifer, who has starred in U-Turn, Out Of Sight and Maid In Manhattan, last starred opposite Jason Statham in Taylor Hackford’s action thriller Parker. She has signed on to thriller The Boy Next Door and will lend her voice to a character in animated comedy Home.

The 44-year-old, who returned as a judge for the 13th series of American Idol, is also keeping busy musically.

She is teaming up with rapper Pitbull and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte to perform the official song of the World Cup, and her eighth studio album is set to be released this year.
