A tool of suppression

The police throughout Pakistan have been accorded with limited facilities and meager salaries. This trend which is being followed in every province, as police comes under the provincial administration; has given rise to a countrywide inefficiency and corruption in the institution. Added to this the encouragement of unlawful tactics to clamp down on public discontent, by successive regimes have converted the police into a tool for the ruling class. Without the reformation of police, which seems to be an issue on the backburner for now; the law and order situation in the country cannot improve. HASSAN BASHIR, Islamabad, July 27.
