DIG Dogar?says 27 netted during crackdown

LAHORE - The Model Town Police Division cops claimed on Thursday to have arrested 27 gang members during a massive crackdown launched against hardened criminals during the last month. DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, flanked by SP Model Town, an under training lady ASP and several SHOs, said that the aforesaid police have apprehended two dozens criminals who were involved in more than 117 cases. Police have also recovered half kilogram gold, eight motorbikes, 21 cell phones, Rs 26, 1500 in cash, 13 pistols (30 bore), 93 bullets, one rifle (12 bore) and six cartridges. Addressing the press briefing, the DIG said the police department was fighting against crimes of various natures. To a query, he said genuine FIRs were being lodged with immediate effect in the City and genuine dacoits were being rounded up for their involvement in different crime acts. However, talking to reporters a few among the arrested accused revealed that they were innocent but police officers concerned were intentionally involving them to show their performance. One of the arrested accused told that SHO Liaqatabad had lodged two fake FIRs against them while they were innocent in the eyes of investigation in-charge.
