ISLAMABAD (INP) - Pakistan Peoples Party on Thursday changed its nominated candidate for the office of AJK President and decided to field former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Yaqub Khan instead of Chaudhry Latif Akbar. Sources in the PPP said Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo and certain other personalities played important role in the change of candidate for the coveted post. It may be recalled that Chaudhry Latif Akbar had earlier refused to accept the office of Speaker of AJK Assembly and insisted for nomination for the office of the President after Chaudhry Abdul Majeed was chosen by the PPP as Prime Minister of AJK. For violation of the party decision, Ch Latif Akbar was asked by the party leadership to explain the reasons for non-acceptance of the offer. PPP Secretary Information Matloob Inqalabi confirmed that Sardar Yaqub Khan has been nominated by the party for the office of the President of AJK. He said Latif Akbar was not formally nominated by the party and no announcement was made. He said media was speculating about Chaudhry Latif Akbar on its own while no such decision was taken by the party.
