“God put Santa Claus on earth to remind us that Christmas is ‘sposed to be a happy time.”
–Bil Keane
Santa Clause’s legend can be traced back hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas. It is believed that he was born sometime around 280 AD in Patara, near Myra in modern-day Turkey. He was admired for his piety and kindness and it is because of this nature that he become the subject of many legends. It is said that he gave away all of his acquired wealth for the sake of helping the poor and needy. Today, he is depicted as a jolly man who wears red and brings toys to children who have been good and have practiced true virtues.
