17 policemen killed, several injured in Mingora police station attack

At least 17 policemen were killed and several others were injured in suicide attack at Mingora police training centre on Sunday. According to a private TV, around 60 to 70 policemen were getting training at Mingora police centre when a man entered and blew himself up killing 17 policemen on the spot and injuring several others. A suicide attack in Swat on Sunday left at least 10 policemen dead, officials said. "The policemen were being given training in Mingora town when a suicide bomber entered the ground and blew himself up near the recruits, killing 10 of them," Swat police chief Qazi Ghulam Farooq told AFP. A senior administration official, Ateef-ur-Rehman, also confirmed the attack and said there were a number of casualties, adding police had been put on high alert. Emergency has been declared in the hospitals of Saeedu Sharif and dead bodies and injured were being shifted to hospitals. The area was rattled with intense fire after the blast and people closed their shops after the attack. Curfew has been imposed in the region. The authorities have declared emergency at the hospitals. The police training centre in Mingora previously came three times under attack of the militants.
