Thalassemia is a dangerous disease that can kill but here in Pakistan as with most of the things, not much attention has been paid to create awareness about the control and cure of this scourge. We have a number of NGO’s working at the national level to contain it, but as such the government has been found wanting in its obligation to grapple with it.
What is compounding the situation is that already the health care system of the country is weak and lacks the wherewithal to eradicate root and branch such diseases. The right way to begin a concerted campaign against the disease is to have able doctors and hospitals with advanced equipment.
