LAHORE - Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Thursday expressed his annoyance over reluctance of police to arrest a Sub-Inspector (SI) involved in triple murder of Muhammad Nasir advocate, his brother and cousin in Ludhar village, in the proximity of Lahore. The CJ was hearing a suo moto case against the murder of advocate whose killers had not yet been arrested despite registration of an FIR against the nominated accused who killed him due to old enmity. DSP Organised Crime Branch Cantt Athar Farooq appeared before the court and submitted a report about the progress made for arresting the accused involved in the murder of Nasir advocate and two others who were shot dead on March 10. The DSP informed the court that a police team, which was constituted for the arrest of the said accused, had been sent to Karachi where the accused were said to be hiding. The DSP added one accused in the case is Sub-Inspector namely Shoukat Ali who was posted in Kasur. About his arrest, he said, a letter had been written to the DPO Kasur to get a go-ahead signal to take action against the accused Sub Inspector. Upon this, the CJ showed displeasure and said, this is no way to arrest an accused in serious criminal cases and it is strange that police are seeking permissions for the arrest of the accused only because the accused is a Sub-Inspector in police. The CJ observed, the Sub-Inspector should be arrested immediately if he has not got bail from any court in the said case. The CJ adjourned further hearing of the case till August 17. The chief justice had taken suo moto notice about the advocates murder when residents of the area and his relatives protested on the city roads by blocking traffic and creating law and order situation. Besides, demanding the arrest of the advocates killers, the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) had also gone on strike on March 10 as a result of which thousands of cases had to be adjourned un-represented and the litigants suffered a great inconvenience.
