Mangla Dam overflows

MIRPUR (AJK) (APP) Scores of houses beside Mangla Dam lake were inundated after the dam overflowed, official sources said on Thursday. The water level continues to rise as floodwater flows into the rivers from the catchment areas after the current fresh spell of heavy rains. Various areas including Boher Colony, Kunjri Colony, Khoo Colony, Kharak village and others were partially affected by the floodwater. Meanwhile, the district administration has already warned the area people about the inflow of 150,000 cusec of flood water into the reservoir, advising them to shift to safer places. The water level in the dam is however, being monitored and a vigil is being maintained by Wapda authorities on the instructions of Mirpur Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Tayyeb Chaudhry after it touched the highest level of 1202 foot through release of additional water from the spillway late on Wednesday night.
