SIALKOT - More than 6,000 applicants have been waiting for issuance of computerised registration papers of their vehicles for the last six months due to slackness on the part of the Excise & Taxation Department, Sialkot.
The applicants had deposited as many as Rs20 million as the registration fee collectively. Several people including Khalid Mehmood, Bashir Ahmed, Allah Rakha, Nasir Ali, Muhammad Iqbal, Imran Akbar and Muneer Butt said that there was a monopoly of agents at the offices of the Department due to which the authorities concerned were not issuing these papers. They alleged that the officials of the department had connived with the agents sitting in and around these offices.
They said that six months had passed but they still remained unable to get their computerised registration papers of their vehicles. They alleged that the agents were actually ruling the roost in the office. they added the agents demand heavy amounts for getting the papers issued on urgent basis.
The applicants also alleged that the officials concerned and their staff often remain absent from their seats at the department. When contacted, District Officer Excise & Taxation Department Mushtaq Afridi said that the entry of agents had been banned in the office. He said that several files of record had been stolen from the motor registration branch several months ago due to which there was an inordinate delay in the issuance.
He said that the three accused officials involved in the theft had been transferred from the Department. He said that the efforts were being made to ensure early issuance of registration papers in Sialkot.
Rs2m grant for Sialkot DBA: PML-N Central Leader Khawaja Muhammad Asif has announced Rs2 million special grant for Sialkot District Bar Association (DBA).
He stated this while addressing an important meeting of lawyers held at Sialkot DBA here the other day. Minorities' MNA Dr Nelson Azeem and DBA President Shahid Mir were also present on the occasion.
get 14th position in education: EDO (Education) Dr Muhammad Iqbal Naeem said that the absentee and work shirker teachers will be dealt with sternly while those showing good results will be rewarded. He said that due to best efforts of teachers and officers of the Education Department the district had improved its position in the CM's target of roadmap. The district had got 14th position as its 35th position last year in education. He said efforts would be made to further improve position of schools in the province and in future officers of the department showing good performance would be suitably rewarded.
