BADIN (APP) On the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari, the Sindh Government has prepared a comprehensive plan to provide incentives to 92,000 small growers of Badin district whose farmland sustained damages as a result of September 2011 heavy rains. According to official sources, the government would provide 529,158 kilograms seeds of sunflowers to 92,052 small growers who possessed 25 acres of land and their crops were damaged due to heavy rains. Similarly, the provincial government would also provide 14,998,140 kilograms of wheat seeds to them so that they could enable to sow wheat crop in the season, the sources informed. The sources informed that heavy rains had completely damaged the crops of paddy, cotton, tomato, chili and vegetables standing on 325,000 acres of land while the rains also caused heavy losses to sugarcane, cotton and other crops standing on 125,000 acres of land in the district. Meanwhile, the representatives of growers organizations Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Ali Sher Chandio, Haji Wali Muhammad Umrani and Shahnawaz Zargar have demanded the government to provide free of cost seeds and fertilizers and interest free loans to growers so that they could be able to overcome their losses, caused by rains in their farmland.
