LAHORE    -   Hundreds of Wapda workers took out a rally here on Thursday under the aegis of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union CBA.

Carrying national flags and ban­ners in support of their demands, the rally was taken out from Bakhtiar Labour Hall. They de­manded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to check rising price hike of essential commodities of daily use items, bringing the level of poverty and inequality between rich and the poor more high.

Khurshid Ahmad, general secre­tary of the union, commended the performance of Wapda employees working round-the-clock to main­tain electricity and restoration of power by repairing transmission lines. The department is facing seri­ous shortage of the line staff which resulted in the tragic death of 45 members of the line staff and many more are becoming disabled due to non-fatal accidents during this year. He demanded the federal minister for energy to intervene and get up to more than half posts filled which were lying vacant for years. 

The procession was also ad­dressed by the Haji Younas, Osama Tariq, Nosher Khan, Haji Liaquat, Malik Zahid, Rana Shakoor, Muzaf­far Mateen, Malik Zahoor and other representatives of the union. By a resolution, the house demanded the energy minister and chairman Wap­da to allow payment of one month salary as performance allowance to the workers who have been working during the heavy floods and rains for maintenance of electricity system alike NTDC, Gujranwala and Faisala­bad Electric Supply Companies
