Senate body seeks report on fake CNICs

ISLAMABAD - Senate Standing Committee on Interior has said that NADRA should have to submit a comprehensive report on fake CNICs and corruption before January 10 to the Committee. Meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior was held on Tuesday in NADRA Headquarters under the Chairmanship of Senator Muhammad Talha Mahmood. Senator Tahir Hussain Mashadi, Senator Gulshan Saeed, Senator Tahira Latif , Senator Sardar Jamal Khan Leghari, Senator Saadia Abbassi and Secretary Interior, Chairman NADRA and member enforcement (PTA) were also present on the occasion. Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Interior Senator Talha said that NADRA have to brief the Committee on the issue of purchase of machinery and equipment in detail. Talking to media men, Chairman Committee said that the numbers of NADRA employees are involved in making fake CNICs and it should be investigated properly and the real picture should be presented to the Committee. Senator said that the NADRA was a very important institution and its main purpose was to facilitate the general public and for this purpose, the Authority must increase the mobile vans in far-flung areas. Senator Talha Mahmood pointed out that there were number of fake ID cards and illegal SIMs are available, causing severe law and order situation like kidnapping murders and bomb blasts. He said that till October 31, 2008 11.2 million SIMs are blocked and PTA has to block all the SIMs till December 31, 2008. During meeting, he seriously felt the absence of Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior and talk to the relevant persons about his absence. He told them that the advisor should ensure his presence in upcoming meetings. He said that government was talking about the supremacy of Parliament, which should be implemented.
