islamabad - Capital Development Authority top officials, ministers and key social figures are stated to be behind the illegal constructions of marriage halls in rural and urban areas of the federal capital.

These halls have been constructed illegally on CDA land worth billion of rupees and there is credible evidence that a CDA Board member is involved in these encroachments.

Sources said that the board member has fixed his commission on marriage halls and collects over 3 million rupees every month from rent. Former assistant director Muhammad Ayub, the right hand man of Asad Mehmood Kayani who retired a month ago, is allegedly behind the illegal marriage halls and housing societies.

As many as 4 among dozen illegal marriage halls are operating in sector E-11 under the patronage of Pirs of Golra Sharif who are backed by law enforcement agencies.

4 marriage halls located in Chatha Bakhtawar are stated to be run by relatives of state minister of CADD Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry. This land is meant for residential plots but marriage halls have been constructed without obtaining NOC from CDA.

When contacted, CDA director building control Faisal Naeem said that about 70 marriage halls are being run illegally in federal capital as per CDA record.

Neither any NOC has been obtained for running these marriage halls nor do they fulfil the legal requirements set by CDA. He said that the case is in court and action will be taken against those involved in the scam.
